Eating after bleaching
What are the effects of teeth whitening - Why are teeth sensitive after bleaching?
After a bleaching treatment at the dentist, the teeth are more sensitive because they have been dehydrated by the bleaching agents and chemical processes. In addition, the tooth enamel has been severely irritated.
Tooth sensitivity depends largely on the type of treatment and the products used. High concentrations of hydrogen peroxide, which are used by dentists and effectively remove deep and superficial tooth stains, cause greater tooth irritation.
In contrast, bleaching products from drugstores or supermarkets only remove superficial tooth discoloration and do not contain hydrogen peroxide. Tooth sensitivity after a bleaching treatment therefore occurs mainly during or after the use of bleaching products containing peroxide. Tooth sensitivity usually manifests itself as a short, stabbing pain when the teeth come into contact with hot or cold food, drinks, sweets, acidic foods or other irritants. With our products, such problems are not to be expected.
Why are teeth prone to discoloration after bleaching?
Under the microscope, it becomes clear what the teeth look like after a bleaching treatment at the dentist : They have tiny open "pores" that allow color pigments from food and drinks to discolor the teeth faster than usual.
Yes, you read that right! Teeth have pores that absorb liquid like a sponge.
But don't worry: Within two to three weeks after the bleaching treatment, these "pores" will close again and you can return to your normal diet. The hypersensitivity of the teeth and the irritated gums usually return after just 2-3 days.
Because of these two factors, we strongly recommend following a "white diet" for the first 2-3 days after whitening treatment, which includes appropriate foods and drinks for sensitive teeth and irritated gums after whitening.
What exactly is meant by a "white diet" for the teeth, you will find out in the next section.
These foods should be avoided after bleaching at the dentist
In the first few days after the bleaching treatment, you should definitely avoid all coloring and acidic foods and drinks!
Coloring foods and drinks can cause unwanted discoloration, while the acidity of many foods and drinks can weaken already stressed tooth enamel.
After using our products, there is no need to give up certain foods.
