Can you bleach artificial teeth?

Artificial teeth and dentures can also become discolored by food and nicotine and can be lightened. However, artificial teeth are made of different materials than natural teeth and therefore require a different cleaning method. While hydrogen peroxide and activated charcoal are the main agents used to whiten natural teeth, baking soda, vinegar and some toothpastes are more helpful in cleaning artificial teeth. The cleaning method also depends on whether the denture is removable or whether it is a permanently integrated artificial tooth such as crowns and bridges. In the latter case, cleaning must be done carefully so as not to damage the natural teeth and gums.
Whiten permanently integrated artificial teeth (bridges, crowns)
Toothpastes with a whitening effect can also remove discoloration from artificial teeth. However, it is important to ensure that the toothpaste does not contain excessively strong abrasive particles, as the plastic of artificial teeth is more sensitive than natural tooth enamel. Although hydrogen peroxide also works on plastic, significant whitening of crowns and bridges using bleaching gels and strips is only possible to a limited extent. In this case, consultation with the dentist may be necessary to avoid uneven colors between natural and artificial teeth, especially if crowns and bridges are worn in the area of the front incisors and whitening of all teeth is desired.
