Rehydration of teeth after professional bleaching

During the bleaching process, the tooth enamel is slightly damaged and made porous to allow the bleach to penetrate the tooth and remove stains. The bleaching gel contains chemicals that can cause the tooth to lose moisture and dry out, but this is usually only temporary and goes away on its own within two to seven days. However, to reduce tooth sensitivity, you can use some tools to speed up this process.

Avoid coloring foods & drinks

There are numerous foods that have a strong influence on the natural color of teeth. These should be avoided, especially after a bleaching treatment, as the colorants can penetrate deeper into the tooth enamel due to the roughened tooth structure. Foods with a high acid content and colored foods, especially fatty foods, should be avoided, as they can attack the weakened tooth even more.

Some drinks should also be avoided if you want to keep your teeth sparkling white. These include soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, curry and paprika powder, red meat, beetroot, red cabbage, blueberries, coffee, red wine, black tea, fruit juices and beer.

However, you don't have to worry about not being able to eat nutritious foods. The term "white diet" includes many foods that can be enjoyed without worry. These include yogurt, rice, pasta, fish, white meat, tofu, eggs, potatoes and chickpeas.

Do not smoke after bleaching

It is strongly recommended to avoid tobacco products after a whitening treatment. Aside from being unhealthy and potentially damaging to the lungs, they also contain substances that can severely discolor the recently whitened teeth. To maintain the brilliant whiteness of your teeth, you should stay away from smoking and chewing tobacco.

Proper dental hygiene after bleaching

It is recommended to use only colorless toothpastes and mouthwashes. When choosing a toothpaste, make sure it does not contain abrasives, as these can further damage the already weakened tooth enamel. It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day and ideally after every meal and to floss regularly. A supportive mouthwash should also not be neglected. To achieve a long-lasting whitening effect, a whitening toothpaste can be used several times a week. For daily use, however, it is recommended to use a normal toothpaste, as this is generally gentler on the teeth.
