Coffee after bleaching
Why is it not advisable to drink coffee after bleaching?
After a whitening treatment at the dentist, dentists recommend a "white diet" and advise against consuming foods that can discolor teeth. Coffee is one of the stimulants that should be avoided after teeth whitening. It is ideal to avoid coffee for 3-4 days in order not to affect the success of the bleaching and to keep your teeth white for as long as possible. However, this does not apply to our products .
But why does coffee discolor teeth so much?
The reason is simple: coffee contains tannins, plant-based tanning agents that are responsible for unsightly discoloration of teeth. However, discoloration is not the only problem.
Coffee is also an acidic food and has a negative effect on the pH value in the mouth. This attacks the tooth enamel that has already been irritated by bleaching, which can lead to increased tooth sensitivity and a negative effect on the healing process after bleaching.
Please also avoid brushing your teeth immediately after drinking coffee or consuming other acidic foods such as lemon, pineapple, vinegar, etc. as this could further damage the tooth enamel. By the way, you should not only avoid coffee but also green or black tea as these also contain high amounts of tannins.
Insider tip: Drink coffee with a straw after bleaching
If you just can't do without a cup of coffee in the morning, there's a little trick: drink your coffee through a straw for at least 4 days after bleaching. This can at least minimize the discoloration. However, ideally you should avoid coffee and other coloring foods completely.
Two coffee alternatives after bleaching
Here are two coffee alternatives that are a much better choice after bleaching and that you may be able to integrate into your daily routine as a permanent replacement.
Alternative 1 : Ginger tea Ginger has proven positive properties for the human body. It is alkaline and therefore good for the pH value in the mouth. In addition, the bitter substances it contains can ensure an energetic start to the day. It is best to use fresh ginger, cut it into small pieces and brew it with hot water.
Alternative 2 : Mate tea Mate tea contains significantly less tannins than coffee, is less acidic, but still provides caffeine in the morning. Try it!
